about 60-150 miles offshore for this trip. But you can usually find some decend viz 20-30 miles at some of the rigs.....depending on time of year and weather.

It's a Decorator Crab. They pile anything that will grow (sponges, grass, etc) on their back for camoflage. If you look close you can see an eye and some legs poking out.

That's the MV Spree isn't it?

Like a couple of others here, I once thought the entire gulf was muddy brown like you see at Galveston or Freeport. But then I started diving and learned that blue water is just a few mile out. I've seen crystal clear blue water well within sight of land and enjoyed hundreds of dives out there.

btw, nice shots...but #5 is a little strange.
