Had a cool encounter the other day... - 12-23-2007, 04:33 PM

I was checking out some new dive sites north of town the other day. Took my camera with me just in case something good showed up and guess what! Something did! I was shooting a small ray on the bottom when I looked up and saw this.

Took the shot expecting to see him swim away when he turned and headed toward me.

He swims right up to me and sets down right in front of me. Spent a couple minutes eye to eye with me then gets back up and swam off. Best Manatee encounter ever!

Great encounter Steve. Where is north of Town? I assumed that is not Austing, TX, so it must be Xcalak, Mex. Is this right? Where is Xcalak? I get to see manatees every day at work and it never gets old, they are amazing creatures. It is an unforgettable experience when they look at you eye-to-eye.

Nice shots, Steven! Would've been a bummer to have missed capturing this amazing encounter. These will make some great prints. Thanks for posting.

Thanks everyone! Some times it just all comes together.
While it was going on I just kept telling myself, take your time, dont rush, get it right cause we aint getting a second chance. Just happened to have the camera with me with the right lens. This was shot about 20 miles north of Xcalak Mx, which is on the carribean just north of the Belize border.
How about one more.

I didnt know they had fingernails.
