Photo Shoot of SNUBA Diver - 03-23-2008, 10:29 PM

Well, Ive moved out to the florida keys to start my own photo/video business (which is doing well so far), and got hooked up with a local scuba shop. i am doing some advertising shots for them, among other things, and just thought id post this pic since there havent been any new posts in here recently. its not great by any means, but considering the vis was a wonderful 12-15 feet, and we had green water, i think it turned out okay. some photoshopping was in order, but i still think the saturation is a bit low and it just looks hazy, so ill probably re-shoot these shots sometime when the vis gets better, but anyways, here you go:

Justin:

Adjust your black point in photoshop to get rid of the haziness. Use the "shadows" slider and bring it up from 5 until your histogram gets to the right.

Cheers
James

thanks james. helped a lot! i still want to redo it though (so i can get some more free diving in!). we will probably head out to some deep blue water so vis wont be a problem, and that way i can get the snuba raft in the picture. just wasnt possible to do that with the vis we had, and it doesnt seem to be getting better.

Sounds like a fun business venture. Are you going to partner with dive shops to offer video of dives? A decent-sized group of first-timers at $30 or so a pop could add up quick...you know everybody would want one. And you get to dive all the time!

I'll be looking you up soon. Hopefully I'll be back in the keys in a few weeks. Cancun's knocking on the door though. Keep us posted on life in the Keys. I've always wondered how people who are from the big city -and not retirement age- could survive after relocating to a place so small and isolated. Don't get me wrong; I absolutely love vacationing in the keys, but i'm gonna need a little more excitement on a fri or sat night & Miami's 4 hours away.

I knew a couple of gals in their 20s who tried to relocate to the Keys. I think they found enough party to keep them going, but a hurricane took everything they had and now they're back in the "real" world. I think having a business that thrives on the location, though, is an excellent starting point to a happy time there.

I've never SNUBA'd, so I don't know, but I thought I heard that one couldn't really SNUBA any deeper than 20~30 feet. Am I wrong or have things changed?

it all depends on how experienced the person is, and how long the hose is. i have a 60 ft hose that i can connect up to a tank on the surface. most places wont do snuba any deeper than 2o-25 ft because if you go much deeper, its just like scuba diving and you have to make safety stops and things of that nature.
