U/W Shooters in Austin / Dallas - help a newbie? - 07-26-2008, 01:36 AM

Hey all!

Taking the plunge and getting a full d200 aquatica kit with dual strobes... NOW that being said, would love to have a get together in Dallas or Austin (pref at someone's house with a pool?) for a "pro" to show me the ropes (port changes, setup, lens choices etc) for a quick primer on ownership / care. I'll bring the beer - you let me pick your brain?

Maybe we could get 2-3 shooters and a model for some underwater portfolio work?

Planning on 2 x DS-125's
Dome Port + Macro Ports

All help appreciated! Ideally would like to do it in the next 2-3 weeks?

Daylon

Dallas: Try Chuck Jensen. He is on HUPS and maybe DUPS website.

Austin: Try Chris Parsons aka CP. He's crew on the Spree so may not be around though.

Also, Ikelite is releasing DS160's. Same as 125's but more powerful. So either get the 160's new or get some cheap used 125's when everyone sells theirs :-)

Also last thing. The Subal and Nexus D200 housings will accomodate the D300 if you buy a kit from Sam Schae on Wetpixel. I think Aquatica makes a kit as well for their housing.

Cheers
James

Great call on those ds-160's - looks like I can still order them and get them in before then end of august. I'm assuming they'll take the standard ikelite dual ttl strobe cable and use the same smart charger?

D.

Everything is the same - I think they must just have higher capacity capacitors or more efficient circuitry.

I'd spend the extra cash and get the 8" dome port over the 6" as well.....especially if you like to shoot wide.

Nikon d70s, 18-70mm, 11-16mm, Aquatica Housing,SS 200 and INON Z-240 strobes.

Buying it from friend of mine - comes with the macro port, 8'' dome + shade. Now all I need is a couple of extension / focus rings and I should be good to go.
