I have just ordered the Canon housing and hope I get it before I leave for the BVI in 2 weeks. Everyone is out of stock so I am concerned. Photos looke great. I have tried multiple u/w inexpensive cameras and never seen anything like the shots you posted. You were not wanting for external flash?

I didn't use any flash for those - Balmorhea has very clear water and I planned this around noon time (West Texas, not many clouds...)

There is flash diffuser/ piece of plastic with the camera. I suppose you could also use the on board flash to trigger an external optically triggered flash?

I'm not very sophisticated with u/w photography (as you can no doubt tell)

I caught these on your blog. You did quite well for being "not very sophisticated with u/w photography."

I'm not being modest here, I have no clue. I just manually focused the camera, switched it into multi-shot mode and pointed it in the rough general direction. I was more concerned with holding my breath and trying to swim down far enough and that sort of thing.

Certainly would be a lot easier with some sort of buoyancy control and breathing apparatus (and the knowledge of how to use it)

Well, if you meet me at the pool one of these days, we can take turns as photographer and model. I need to do both, and I could use a partner.

I would also like to figure out how to get a permit for a nude photo shoot in the state parks, particularly Balmorhea. It has the best water I've seen in Texas for that sort of thing. I would be willing to do this in the dead of Winter, if I had to.

Don't try and save money by using petroleum jelly like I did on my 20D housing. It worked but I put it up one day after cleaning it and didn't touch it for several months. When I took it out the o-ring was dried out and crumbled when touched even though I had cleaned it before storing it. The silicon isn't that expensive and in the end I ended up costing myself money instead of saving any. But then the o-ring wasn't that expensive either but it would have been bad if I had gotten out on the boat and found out then that it needed a new one.

Of course nobody but me would be dumb enough to do something like this, but just in case you have been warned
