Question video downloading and editing question - 06-11-2010, 02:20 PM

I have a video downloading and editing question. I just bought a new Canon Vixia HF R10 to replace my older Canon mini DVD recorder. The new one is hd and writes to sd cards. My question is one what is the best way to get the files from the card/ camera to the computer? It came with what I guess is Canon’s Pixela ImageMixer 3SE Video Editing Software. I know nothing about it other than it seems somewhat dated. I have AdobeCSs4 Master Collection which has Adobe Premiere Pro, but to be honest it’s way over my head. I’d rather just buy Premiere Elements 8 if it will work.

If I do this will I still need the Pixela Image software the camera came with to get the video files of the card/ camera and onto the computer so I can then export them to a regular file folder? Or will Premiere do this for me straight out of the camera. If possible I only want to use one program to download, organize and edit my videos.

yes I’m and idiot when it comes to video editing, I’m sure it’s very similar to photos but since I’ve never been around it I don’t know.

Thanks for any info and help!

Casey:

I know it has been a few months since your post. If you are still having issues let me know.

I am a broadcaster with the Army Reserves and do a ton of video editing in Premiere, Avid, and do a little in Final Cut.

Let me know what questions you have.

Hi Jason,
It looks like I am in the same boat as the original poster with the same equipment. Is there a good website for beginners to the video world that you point me to?

Thanks for your time!
Sharon

Youtube is a great start. Also depending on the software you are using AdobeTV, Vimeo, and daily Motion may be a good starting point as well.

If you are using Premier Pro. Once you have attached the camera and started the program, go to File>Capture and see if it will see your camera. If not, plug camera in and the computer should see it as a storage device. Just open the folder and copy/cut the files you want to a file on your computer.

Again once that is done open premier, new project. On the left hand side upper area you will see a spot that says untitled. That is your timeline. Right click anywhere in that area and click import. Find you files and import. Premier should allow you to see them.

If you need more help just let me know.
