Question Adjusting Exposure in Post - 08-01-2011, 08:04 AM

Hey guys,
I was wondering how the best way to adjust the exposure in post is. I know it's always best to do it in camera but in this case it was not possible as I was driving a vehicle and couldn't drive and play with the camera lol.

I went wheeling (off-roading) this past weekend and shot a video going down the trail. Having exposed for where I was at the time I hit an open area and things got blown way out. I was wondering if this is fixable or is it just scrapped.

I have Adobe but not too skilled at either of the video programs with it. Any help or useful links would be much appreciated. Thanks. :)

ya like the first 30sec or so are great but after that I hit an open area where the tree coverage went away and things start to get washed out due to over exposed. I know it's still gonna look like crap but was wondering if I can tone it down a bit in the parts that are getting over exposed.

Thanks, Adobe AE it is. You wouldn't happen to know a site that might have some free training vids? maybe I need to update my kelby training again lol.

Well, it depends on how overexposed your shot is.

And I agree with Stephen ... some good info on CreativeCow, I am a member there. But sometimes those guys can be a bit overwhelming to a newbie.

In Premiere, you can use the 3-way Color Corrector. In After Effects you would use the RGB color parameter.

If you need a quick fix and render, I would use the Premiere 3-way Color Corrector.

The 3-way color corrector has 3 color wheels, a levels adjuster for all 3 and a saturation lever.

The 3 different circles represent the Blacks, Mids and Whites of the video.

Very fine tuned color and exposure adjustments.

^^ Yup, now Scott and the the guys on AdobeTV are awesome and they definitely know their stuff, especially when it comes to Photoshop. But I don't see much on After Effects let alone Premiere.

crank the gamma and brightness than add some contrast and saturation to set those off. Drive by your scopes, not your monitor.

Following the scopes, can be overwhelming to those not doing video on the high-end level.
