Just ordered a Sony HDR-XR500v today.
Found a deal on it at J&R for 400 below MSRP, 300 below BB and 50 below B&H. The pricing for it is all over from 1299 to 949 and i found it for 899 today.
Reviews are great and cant wait.

I looked at that but couldn't get past the battery hanging off the end.

Looks like an after-thought.

Seems like a great price though.

If one was into grey-market models... you can really save.

I'm thinking a refurb and even though it says USA warranty I'd bet you have to ship it
overseas to get the work done.

Let's see some vids when you get it.

Battery on the back doesnt bother me. The battery is on the back of the 3 previous Sony's that I have owned. The weight isnt noticeable and somewhat gives the camera a more balanced feel. I like how easy they are to change back there just by pushing a button.
Will be sure to post samples once I get it and begin to mess around.

It supposed to have a mode in HD-HQ mode that allows for dual mode shooting, where you can still record a HQ HD stream and it will take a 12mp photo at the same time while still recording, whereas older camcorders actually pause recording, take the photo, then resume.

Will see...
