Wil,
I think ZoomH4N is way to go. You can use special cable (so that you don't have to mix in post). I have some pictures on my blog
Canon 5d mark ii with Zoom H4N | Soobum Im Photography
I also love olympus DS40 with lav mic
It's 44.1 khz so you will have to convert it but it's very easy to do

@Soobum: If you connect the 1/8" cable directly from the H4N to the DSLR, will you get the same quality audio recorded directly to the video stored on the DSLR card? Or... would you get better audio off of the card stored in the H4N? Or are they the same?

You will get better audio qt with it as long as you use 25 dB attenuation cable (regular 1/8" won't even work). Also you have a backup recorded in Zoom H4N

Said works with
Canon: EOS-1D Mark IV, EOS 5D Mark II, EOS 7D, EOS 550D Rebel T2i
Nikon: D3S, D300S
Panasonic: Lumix GH1
Pentax: K-7
Shipping is expensive but better alternative to other U.K vendor (they are selling around 50 + shipping)

So I got the Zoom H4n and a Red Head Windscreen for it... as well as a custom cable to go between the camera and the H4n. Seems to very nicely so far!
