Promo video question - 04-19-2011, 11:08 AM

I want to shoot 3 or 4 small 2 minute clips for promotional videos of our behind the scenes photo shoots. For you tube and other marketing. I don't want to brach out in to video really but I want to make this cost/quality effective. Would you just hire out the job to a videographer or purchase a video camera and do it yourself? I shoot Nikon and don't have any bodies that do video. Would you buy a body that does video or just a dedicated camcorder? Any thoughts or suggestions are welcome.

Well, it's for your promo of what you are doing and not utilizing the professional quality of a pro.

I would say get a fairly good HD consumer video camera and grab a video student. I bet they would love to help you with it while you do your creative thing in still photography.

Hiring a videographer to shoot you may be a bit better on angles and composition, but for just getting the jiffs that you will edit yourself ... a video media student would be great. And would save you lots since you aren't really venturing into the video side.
