Cowboy Studio Continuous Lighting - 06-03-2011, 01:14 PM

Back story: I'm a still photographer for a small non-profit who is having to add video to his repertoire (which I'm excited about). Our main focus right now is single person testimonials and so on. Currently our equipment consists of Flip cameras and my personal Smith-Victor single bulb lights I inherited from a friend. I'm really making the push to upgrade our equipment and with an anticipated very limited budget, I'm reviewing all options.

Having said that, does anyone have experience with the continuous lighting from Cowboy Studio? I've read reviews of their strobes and people haven't been too impressed with them. (Not surprising in that they look fairly cheap). Any other budget-minded suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have used Cowboy Studio continuous lighting for video shoots ... not very durable to tell you the truth.

I recommend these guys : TUBETAPE

Yup, tubetape. When I was looking for my own set of lights, I stumbled upon these guys. And bought a set. Actually some pretty good lighting for what they are for cheap. And they have variable lighting control (dimmer switches in the video world).

They aren't Arri's or Lowel lights ... but they definitely do the trick if it's your first time.
