Please excuse the derragotory reference towards little cameras, I've got a chip on my shoulder in the shape of an TK76 and it's screaming "head clog in the deck"

Wow a TK-76 was way before my time but I know exactly what your refering to. Cant beat the old 3/4 inch cameras can ya? Guess I am lucky I only had to use Betacam and DVCPRO.

Does anybody know if there's any Lav Mic kit that would work with the 5D Mkii? It could be very interetsting to try it out....

If you're going direct, you'll need something that provides it's own power. The 5D2 is a line in (line level) input. It will not power a mic. If you go lav via wireless and just run the line out of the receiver into the 5D2 it'll work fine. I have done that.

That's exactly what I am asking, I was thinking about the wireless lav mic anyway, but thanks for answering my question Andrew

speaking of wireless lav mic, got any recommendation? I've tried Sennheiser and Sony ones, Sennheiser ones sounds much better (cleaner), but yikes! didn't know it starts at $500 for that.

The 76 was way before my time too, but the budget folks didn't think a 20-30 year old camera needed replacing. It did fine "studio in the field" work until it lost vertical stability, long after the blue paint wore off.

I love tube cameras, the HL79 was and probably is still one of the best SD cameras ever made, the images out of there (with a well lit setup) were amazing. The D600 too... I miss good SD production.

I've got an that gets its power by way of a wired AA battery pack, about the size and weight of a wireless transmitter, just with an XLR out. There's a (terminates in a mono-mini) powered by a watch battery. Had it paired up with my MD recorder (sheesh who uses those these days) for VO. Both models are well under $200.

The (my personal favorite) has a AA power module on it.

For Lav's unless it's a standup with experienced talking heads, I would avoid going wired. Eventually they tangle up or run out of cord and then things get really entertaining.

Get the Sennheiser setup. I use one at work and its great. You can get the lav body pack transmitter, the receiver and a wireless cube to plug into a handheld mic for $500-600. Lectrosonics brand is also good but expect to pay big $$$.
