This is a discussion on A Same Day Wedding Film, Christina and Sam within the Video Showcase forums, part of the Videography Information category; So this is my 2nd wedding film I have done in my own name and my very first Same day ...
Its my first time to hear the term "same day edit" for a wedding video. I cannot image a better example, however. I also can't imagine it getting much better than this. Wow.
I can tell you shot throughout the day with a very clear vision of what you wanted the video to look like. Amazing execution, even if you'd have had a week to edit. Clearly outstanding.
Thank Darren, we really appreciate it. BUt we are far from the first to do it.
You are right about having a very clear vision, it an absolute must if you intend to edit this stuff in just a few hours. I had a vague story board I put together showing the order of things along with two specific transitions I wanted to use. Like the day to night dolly shot and the whip pan from groom to bride. Since I wasn't able to go to where the groom was getting ready, I had to describe to my other shooter exactly what I wanted and how I wanted it framed.
While I edited everything on a 27" iMac in the coordinators office I had a 13" Macbook pro going as well to help with converting all of the raw footage to an editable format.
Great job Bryant!
The only thing negative I would say is it was pretty heavy on the focus racking/pulling (or whatever it's called) to the point where is was kind distracting.
This style is pretty nice. I see alot of people are doing it with the 7D. But yea, I also think the rack focusing can get a bit tiring after a while.
It is creative, but I have ran into people who would like just about the whole video to be in focus and no creative rack focusing. But hey, if your client gives you that creative freedom, that's awesome.
This is such a cool video. makes me want to break out the vhs of my wedding and convert to digital and create something like this. excellent work. What did you use for editing?
