Andrew,

Finally a good review of the video part of the 5DII. With the hole cake and not just a little piece. That cleared most of my questions. Can't wait to have mine.

God Bless!

what do you think would happen if you use the camera with a lens baby, or a lens that required an adapter to fit. They don't report back the aperture to the camera... will it not work, or just have two adjustments?

Great video Andrew! Thanks for sharing. I am actually impressed with the video quality but so bummed out about the Aperature settings.

Here is something that I posted elsewhere tonight in response to someone stating that all pros focus manually in video.

"Since you cannot use the viewfinder while shooting you have to use the LCD. I shot some at an NHL game tonight. I gotta say...It is pretty much impossible to follow focus using that LCD. It is an excellent screen and could be used when you have large objects filling the frame...But hockey players on the ice (using a 300mm lens too) were SO HARD to see on the LCD while trying to follow focus and stand back away so you could see the screen and at the same time reach out to the end of the medium length telephoto to turn focus ring.

BTW: I was just testing and would never recommend it for Hockey... I had to bump up EV to max to compensate for no manual exposure and bright ice.

Images looked great when focused.. LOL

I would totally recommend using an outboard monitor when shooting something important. It's just too difficult with a 3in LCD and small subjects in the frame. "

On the plus side... I was shocked at how good the AI-SERVO worked. I was able to track all the action at the NHL game with no trouble at all. FPS was slow.. But focus was very good. It SHOCKED THE HECK OUT OF ME. I put the MKIII down after the first period and shot the 5DMKII the rest of the night just to see how it performed.

Thanks for that information.

It is dissapointing to see that the noise from the IS actually can be heard in the video. Does the 5D Mk II have a connector or anything (socket) that can accept a microphone ?

Yes. It has a mini plug that allows stereo recording with an external mic.

On the other hand, the IS sounds like old film shutter...Just shoot in b/w and call it (high def art). LOL!
