This is a discussion on Inspire: Model Shoot with one Quantum QFlash within the Video Vault forums, part of the Photography Information category; Here's a great video showing photo Andy Lesauvage from the UK photographing model Leilani Dowding .
The video is great ...
Im always trying to find good photo related videos especially those that incorporate some off camera flash portrait sessions..
No worries... I will post them here on CPF as I find them. I may need to come up with a good system of archiving them so that future members can find them easily... hmm lemme look into that.
Great vid! Anyone know what diffuser he is using? I thought it was a Gary Fong lightsphere at first but seems to be a softbox of some sort unless he switched between the two.
He's actually using a Quantum Flash unit which has that bowl shaped modifier on the head of the flash. They typically are used with the flat white diffuser cap as shown in the photo below but in the case of the video is seems he is shooting with the diffuser off.
The flash and battery setup is about $1,100 or so. ouch.
Very interesting. Thanks for the vid. We need more vids like this. LOL, I love studying the lighting setups. Once I have more free time, I can experiment. LOL, for the time being I am slowly building my arsenal.
given the location, the shooter, it would seem, had access to A/C and still chose to go with a single, portable, battery-operated, source. that may say more about him, the limitations of his gear, his lack of an assistant (i didn't see one), time constraints, or other production issues rather than the quantum being his first choice for this shoot. or, maybe not.
Jimmy,
I know you have the gear, and you have the assistants, and you certainly have the talent (I've seen your work on other forums). With the kind of availability you spoke of (power, etc) how would you have done that shoot?
How do you do shoots on location? Or do you prefer to work in your studio?
That's an awesome video. It's great to see the model as well as the photographer interacting in a photoshoot. This reminds of similar (although simpler, more modest) setup that was done by Joe McNally using Nikon's CLS system. Video is called Speed of Light. I highly recommend the video if you have Nikon setup. In fact, I have several photoshoots in the next 2 weeks that i will be using the CLS system with an SB600 and SB800 on my D80. I'll post some of the photos once I've edited them.
