This is interesting, but why not go with an inexpensive monopod? Here's one from RadioShack for $9.99, it's a Targus brand. Works for me! http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...tId=2850678&cp

That looks like a very good one to replace my 18 yr-old unknown maker monopod I finally threw away! (But for those pocket P&S, and light clothing needs, the screw+line+washer also fits the "in the pocket" bill.)

Interesting concept though. | This line of thinking makes a monopod useless as well ??
I think if you try this technique you will find out it is not as restrictive as you are imagining.

I'm curious if anyone's tried it yet, and their thoughts on it.

I used the "One-dollar Image Stabilizer" for about 45 minutes last Saturday morning. On the first shot, I did find that I took the photo before I'd fully pulled the line taut. It blurred. Once I locked in my brain, set stance, set line taut, take photo, it worked great! Somewhere between "large format photography" with the slow, deliberate photo taking and new DSLRs with Super ISO/Low Noise and "machine-gun" photo taking, is where you'll find this type stabilizer useful. (Note: my Fuji S6000fd's only other IS/VR is ME)

I've been in the market for a monopod lately...today I was in San Antonio, stopped by Camera Exchange to try a few of them. I took my D50 with 70-300 in and tried several monopods...I set the lense to 300mm and took several shots, one with a monopod and one without. In almost every instance...if the hand held pic had blurr...so did the monopod shot. I realize that practice would make it better...but I really thought I would see some improvement. I didn't buy a monopod...maybe the $1.00 trick would work better. We shall see.
