Tutorial: Color Correction - 10-08-2008, 01:49 AM

I originally made this video for Bryant aka Swanny at like 1:00 AM in the morning showing him a different and fast way to do color correction to save some time.

You will have to ignore the voice over, I never intended to make this professional just simply easy to understand.

In this video just shows you the basics of color correction, I did not actually have a photo that was in bad shape. So I purposely took one of my photos and made it look like it was shot in a tungsten white balance. The hardest part of this tutorial is deterring the Grey area.

If you have any questions about this tutorial let me know.

(Just so you know the threshold tool is only used to find the shadows, highlights, and midtones. There are many ways of doing all this but I prefer this method since it was the first one I learned at photoshop world back when photosohp cs came out.)

Hi Carl,

Nice. Here is how to find the neutral gray point:

Create a New layer after opening the image, then under the Edit menu choose Fill, under that menu choose 50% Gray, click OK. It will fill the mask with 50% gray. In the layer panel change the blend mode to Difference, you will get a weird looking picture. Then choose Threshold from the Create New Adjustment Layer pop-up menu. You will get a histogram. Move the slider all then way to the left. The image will be totally white. Slowly start moving the slider back to the right until you get a nice little black spot large enough for you to put an eyedrop marker on. Then press and hold the shift key and then click in the black spot. Press Cancel in the threshold dialog and dispose of the 50% Gray layer into the trash can to delete it. You now have the neutral gray point marked.
