K.. you wanted brutally honest so here goes. And keep in mind that I'm not a web designer, nor a pro, so this is just my simple opinion.

1. Get rid of the footer, it contains the same information on your contact page.
2. I dont personally care for all the boxes, especially the dark ones on the right of the page. It reminds me of those ad supported websites.

I do however LOVE the gallery. Its simple, clean, and effective.

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate your honesty. You raise an interesting point about the boxes resembling ad space... I'll consider changing it up a bit.

Ryan,
I find the following a little strange, in school I remember learning that you can’t be both We and Me at the same time.

(We're an Austin, Texas
We now employ this passion
Our business is
We specialize in
we prefer shooting
sample of our work.
we have no "packages
we don't
We have)
ECT. ECT.
(My name is Ryan Henderson. I'm a freelance photographer living and working in Austin, Texas. As a student at the University of Texas at Austin, I'm a Management Information Systems major in the Red McCombs School of Business.)
Now, which is it? On part of your web site you are a business with plural tense, on the other you are an individual, how can it be both?

In many years in business, I have found the client does not care what equipment you use and to list it makes you look like an amateur. It is what you do not what you have to do it with. If I listed equipment it would take most of my web site, it does not need to be listed.

Your images are beautiful travel shots that look very much like you took a trip or two. You really need work that shows what you can do and how well you can do it.

Do understand this is just the opinion of a very old man with many years in the business of photography and as with any criticism take what you want and leave the rest.

Best of luck, in general it all looks good.

Thank you for your commentary.

As to the use of "we" and "I", I've heard differing opinions. I've heard that when talking about the business in general, it is proper to use the pronoun "we" in place of "the firm" or "the photographer", but while talking about myself personally, I should use "me" and "I". I'm still not sure, and I might consider changing it.

I absolutely agree about my portfolio -- it is indeed from some personal trips. At this point, I am an amateur. I mainly provide photography in tandem with my web design services, so I just launched this site as a side project. I'm currently working on building a more professional portfolio, so good advice!

Again, thanks for your critiques.

Ryan,
When I read a web site that has a lot of “we” and “us” and then see that it is one person it looks deceiving, and to me if I were a possible client I would find a truthful business. When you have employees then you become a “We”. Again this is my option, nothing more.
As for being an amateur, I believe an amateur does a thing out of love and I hope I never quite being an amateur, I am just lucky enough to earn my living doing this thing I love.

I understand what you mean, and thanks again for your consideration. And after reconsidering, I'm going to change everything to "I" and "me". I guess I was going for something different in my head, but I agree that always saying "I" is more straightforward. I wasn't trying to deceive anyone, but you bring up a good point that it might be construed that way, so I've changed it.

Thanks again!

Bottom of page was cut off on my screen 1920x1200

I had the desire to click the main image slideshow to make it go faster, clicked and nothing, it's clean, but almost to clean. throw some dirt up in there

Ryan, I think I see it the same way you did. I believe I use them as "we" as in the business and "me" when talking about me. I chose the "we" because I frequently bring an assistant to tag along and help me but that's not always the case. I don't want my clients to be caught off guard if I mention someone else coming onto the shoot... suppose that covers the explanation as to why I would use "we" sometimes interchangeably with me. Kind of like a singer, who has a band. There is a me and a we there. Right?
