My first cut at a Portfolio site - 10-24-2009, 11:13 AM

It's not finished by a long shot, but I'm interested in opinions on the template. Remember my primary 'market' is 'models'. Quotes included for levity

Nice pics.

The sliding effect when it loads an image is a bit annoying after awhile.

Great work on the site; each of the images presented is really top quality! If you can get potential clients to view the site it should bring in a lot of business. I very much like the trick of transitioning from a B&W image to a color image, it is something different and an attention getter. I do wonder, however, if you ultimately have many more images on the site if that wouldn't get to be a bit much. I will be interested to see others opinions on that.

Scott,

I hook up ~6mp. Things load fast enough for me. But the sweeps do get a little tiresome.

Your contact form is a little small for me. I have a 22" wide screen and its a little hard for me to read. It could be an age thing...

Other than that I like it.

Scott,
I would loose the 2/10 4/10 type numbering and use bigger images.
The transactions also bother me.

In reality ... a service or info website no matter how arranged makes little difference.
Also its how you advertise sponsor promote it.
But the most valued websites are those you buy things from - direct marketing products like online camera stores and clothing.

Thanks for the comments. I'm going to use the development to help me learn some rudimentary flash programming because it's a challenge. I wonder if the transitions were a little faster (shorter time), but not too fast, if that might make the slides less tedious after a while.

I don't like the 1/10... on the thumbnails either. I'm going to nix that. I've already pulled the music player and made font changes. Next is getting my real logo in place of the "PoloDigital Photography" text. The template only cost me $30, so it's not an expensive mistake if I have to tear it all up or start with another base.

I'll update this thread when I version the site and we'll see what everyone thinks then.

Thanks again!

I was not able to get it to load. I am using fox fire. Tired 3 times no go.

I fixed the FireFox issue and changed the transition just a bit so it's not so tedious.

Scott, the third image really bugs me... kinda creeps me out. Where did you find that guy?

Cool site, although the transitions and effects overpower the content (your photos) on the site, taking focus away from what really matters... I'd tone down the transitions several stops down.

My only suggestion would be to put Portraits as the first gallery displayed. In my honest opinion that is your most impressive work.

Good stuff. Got some photos in there I've never seen and some I'm just happy to view again....

OK, I think I've made most of the changes including figuring out where the black sliding frame was coming from as the images loaded. Found an O'Reilly book on AS3 programming that is helping.

Now all I have to do is add more quality content and re-write the 'about' section.

Thanks again for the suggestions and help. Keep it coming!

I like the general layout of everything, but I also feel that the transitions are a bit much. Also in your about and contact pop-ups I'd maybe set those up with slightly bigger more spread out (or not condensed) text. I have pretty good eyes, but it was tiring to read.

Great work though, you've got enough variety of shots to show your style, but not too much as to be cumbersome to sort through. A few more tweaks and then you're there I think. Just make sure the website doesn't take focus away from the photos, you want people to say "great photos" and that's it really, good design doesn't distract from the focal point.
