Question I want a website... - 06-27-2009, 12:45 PM

I want a website for two reasons. (1) I want a place to display my best pictures for friends and family to see, and if I'm going to pay flickr or another website to host them then I might as well pay to have more control over it. And (2) I want/need something with a stable email address because we will be relocating soon and I'm tired of changing email addresses every time we change cable companies.

Here are my requirments:

-affordable, and monthly payments available.
-reasonable storage (I dont need 7million gigs)
-provides a site building tool (all I know is yahoo pagebuilder at this point)

I just want something simple, with my own .com address, that I can update periodically by myself. I'd like it to at least look somewhat sophisticated, perhaps a flash player or something, and maybe some music. Nothing extravagant, just nice and simple.

Any suggestions? I'm completely confused. Eleven.2 looked good, and has a package that I like, but after emailing them I'm only more confused. If they have 'dummy' tools that I will be able to understand then I'll go with them.

Been with godaddy.com for years now and have been very satisfied
they offer domain registration, hosting, site builder, email and are very reasonable...you could also check with one of our sponsors, smugmug as they allow their upper level accounts to customize their page so that it looks like a web site, even though it's just image hosting...
depending on the level you purchase at godaddy, you would also get a google ad credit and/or a facebook ad credit with your hosting account...

Not sure what you mean?

Sorry, Just saw it monthly payments. Save $195 and you are good to go. Paying one of the other sites for 7 months is going to be the same price. So after month 7 you will be saving money.

I bought my web site through Costco member discount through Value Web Which is like 14.95 a month and they took care of getting my .com address. Then purchased a flashpalette.com web template which start at $88.00 was idiot proof. I understand NOTHING about this stuff But I could put it together and work it. Also you can download a template from flash Palette and try it before buying.

photobiz.com is as easy to deal with as they come.

A bunch of cool templates that you only plug your photos into.
You can change any text or photos in one easy motion.

I don't remember what it costs, but it is worth every penny.

I decided to go with eleven2.... I figured if anything went haywire, I'd just chase down Able.

I just got mine but it was custom designed.
The control panel on the back-end where you upload photos could not be any easier! It's so cool. Extremely easy to upload to the galleries and arrange the pics in any order I want, and then it automatically makes the thumbnails and the medium size pics for the homepage. Updates in real time, too.

I'm just waiting to have time to go back and re-save the pics with more compression to make load times faster.

I just went through the "getting started wizard," and it was relatively easy. I now have an email address at my own .net domain, but it wont be active for another 24 to 72 hours. And it seems relatively easy now that I looked at it. I'm so used to working with the file manager on yahoo pagebuilder that I guess I understood it more than I thought I would. Now I just need a publishing program like MS Frontpage or something.

They don't make Front Page anymore....MS broke it into two programs and calls it something else now.

I use Dreamweaver for my web design business. I have the MAC version and it was pretty straight forward and easy to learn (but I knew Front Page pretty well when I started using DW)

Thanks for the link! They have really nice templates, and I'm thinking about signing up, instead of continuing to beat my head against the brick wall that is our current site. If you tell me your name (PM me if you want to), I'll put you down as my referrer, if we decide to sign up. : )
