Dreamweaver? - 07-12-2009, 10:57 AM

Hello

I am thinking about making a website and I am just wondering if Adobe Dreamweaver will be all I need to build a quality photo site?

I would assume this is a rather difficult process for somebody who has never used the program but if it is possible with this program alone then I know I atleast have what I need already.

Thanks for the help
-Justin

I always thought Dreamweaver was pretty comprehensive.

I love Dreamweaver, plenty of widget and extension you can buy and easily integrated within ya the site. I really like project seven stuff and it's not that expensive. It's feature rich and probably one of the best out there but can't be bulky if you site is heavy. The background uploading really freaked me out sometime, it takes a few t 5 minutes to update the remote site and there's no way to disabled it.

Dreamweaver will get you started off nicely. Then get someone to do a little SEO magic on it.

If you go to template monster.com - you can download one of their free dreamweaver templates - it's a great way to get 'self' taught, cause you can see how it all works together.

Justin, I built and maintain my website with DreamWeaver. It took me a little while to learn how to effectively use it (this is the first web site I have built), but I like the results (www.DigitalScapePhotography.com). It is quite powerful and I am sure that i am not using all its capabilities.

Wonderful! Thank you all for the input.

Can I build a flash site with it?

Justin, I was able to put a flash slide show of images in my website with Dreamweaver - I have since redesigned my site and took it out.

Justin -
Yes, you can build a site WITH flash in it - with dreamweaver.

That's different than a 'flash' website.

Check this tutorial out: http://www.ehow.com/how_4422933_use-...templates.html

Flash is a ton of fun, once you learn it... it's like editing a movie to me... where as dreamweaver is like editing an image.

So I would need Adobe Flash in order to make something similar to this?

Is your goal to be a photographer or a website designer?

I do enough websites for other people, that I can do my own site, from the ground up. But I don't.

Because my goal is to be a photographer, so I focus my interest/attention/education in that area. Make sure you are determining that for yourself.

That smooth slide... kind of thing... flash would do that.

But honestly - dollars to donuts - based on the font choice, it looks like an xml template which you can get for about $85 and with very little effort be wonderfully happy with it in my opinion.

Check this out:
http://www.templatemonster.com/flash...tes/24841.html

$85... and you can have a functional website, that looks gorgeous... that you can customize at your leisure... it doesn't get much better than that I believe.

Donna,
That was a great pick. While I don't mean to steal a thread, how difficult is it really, to edit a website such as that to something that I might want?

thanks,
