Almost afraid to submit my humble website - 08-23-2009, 02:35 PM

Hey Guys,

Well, I finally decided to quit relying on Pbase and teach myself a little bit about this HTML and Style Sheet stuff.

My website is called Traces of Texas

Traces of Texas

The direct link to my main gallery is here:

My Master Gallery

I know that I have a lot of cleanup to do and a lot of content to add to the site but I wonder if you like the color scheme/theme, the Intro Flash (I am undecided) etc...

Thanks in advance for taking the time to look.

It looks pretty nce, I would say. Maybe a tad difficult to navigate with all the pages within each category, but lots of nice pictures.

Humble it may be but your photography is great.
It is not the site but the work.

Nice site. I do however have a problem with the text over on the right of the main page, the "contact me" is hard to read. Maybe a little bigger font? Maybe a little bolder?

I like the site, the previous comment about the contact link jumped out to me as well, but it is in other more visible areas so not a big deal IMO.

The photos were great, the integration with SmugMug was good but I would make the background colors match, at least on the main page.

I do not want this to sound like an insult, as it is really not intended as one. What is the purpose of the site?

Creative outlet?
Informational?
A business venture?

The content is good, photos are great, I like your comments and I like the information.

No real complaints, good job.

Flea ... thanks for this comment. I think I might make it a little big bigger.

Yes, I have been meaning to integrate the colors from the homepage with those of smugmug. I am having a little bit of difficulty figuring out exactly how to do that.

I guess the REAL purpose of the site is to help defray some of the costs that I incur in traveling around Texas but to do so in a way that is both enjoyable and informative and that (hopefully) also shows that I am (again, hopefully) not only a photographer but one who can also write creatively.

I would say that it has really mostly served as an outlet for all this stuff that's been accreting inside of me for all these years, this sadness I have for a Texas that no longer is and that, frankly, may never have been. It's a personal version of "The Last Picture Show."

My original idea was to offer a pean to a bygone age but, as you can tell, it sort of went beyond that, as these things so often do.

Thanks to rgoodwin and some idiot for the compliments regarding my photos.

I just drive around and look at stuff.

I have SO MANY to add at the moment and am about to head out on another photo safari.
