Online Tutorials or Good Flash (CS3) Books? - 10-23-2009, 04:32 PM

I'm finally biting the bullet and revamping my three plus year old website. As display sizes have grown, my tiny window just isn't relevant any more. I've bought a couple of flash based templates and started messing with the AS code in Flash CS3, but I'm quickly getting in over my head and need a research aide.

Anyone find a good tutorial site for flash coding? I've done a few google searches and have come up with a couple that have gotten me past the 'what the heck am I looking at' stage, but now I want to delve deeper and modify the code to change some things in the source fla file.

If I can't get it online (instant gratification 2009 version), I will be happy to buy a textbook. I hate browsing online for books and it seems my local Barnes & Noble isn't flush with flash content, so I'm asking for personal recommendations for an experienced programmer, but flash newbie.

Thanks!

Hope someone responds to this as My Husband has been trying to get a flash site up and running also even took a 3 day class for 1000.00 last year and it didn't get him where he needs to be...;(

Not sure where you bought your template from - but templatemonster.com - if you go into the support area - they have pretty good information on making changes. It's where I've picked up 'most' if not all of my 'know how'.

Scott,
You might consider a Community College.
Going to one is fine but ....
ACC here in Austin assigns students to clients and the students do the work
for credit and often no or little dollars.
That way you dont do any work, buy any software/etc, and just direct.
Many professional software houses are upset
and think ACC is undercutting the commerical market.
They are right ...

With a bachelors degree in computer science, I don't think learning AS2 or AS3 is beyond my capability. I've taught myself several other languages to add to my c/c++/objective c base, so confidence is high.

I paid a developer for my first site. The next one I'm doing myself.

I looked at your website its coming good. Are you still working on it. If you are still looking for books these are the books recommended to me by my friend.

Essential ActionScript 3.0 - O'Reilly Media

ActionScript 3.0 Design Patterns - O'Reilly Media

I also wanted to work on my website for a long time. I want to build one with Pan and Zoom slideshow.
