Throwing it into the pit - 01-12-2010, 12:56 AM

So ... I decided to throw in my "Under Construction" Website ....

Hopefully it's enough to get the point across ...

Let me know what you guys think.

I am not a web designer ... but have been practicing and practicing Flash CS3 for the past 8 months now ... I am eventually going to buckle down and take an actual class as oppose to having 4 different "HowTo Flash" Books.

THE one thing I am having trouble with is trying to get a loading Bar to work for each click of video or photos .... (but that's a whole other topic all together)

And when looking at it ... if you are wondering ... I went to school for Video Editing / Motion Graphics and Studio Control systems .... I have been working in the field for Professional video companies for 5 years now. And have been building my ability to be a still photography for the past 2 years.

... just to give you insight ...

NOW let the critiquing begin ...

Clean site, coherently organized content, and easy navigation.

On the photos section... the category names and the photos sometimes overlap... you can probably move the category names to some place else.

Also the photos take some time to load when changing. For this you preload all the images at once in the beginning, so changing photos will be instantaneous.

A suggestion regarding your loading bars you mentioned... you can always have a spinner animation instead of a loading bar, this is simple and gets the message across.

This is of course just purely personal preference... but why all flash site? I can see flash being used for photos/videos, but not a big fan when it's used for other sections like about/contact, HTML is there for a reason. And the other personal thing is color... which is very very clean now, but some color might liven things up a bit.

But overall, very cool stuff. The videos are awesome :) Keep it up.

Thanks ... yeah ... funny you say about color.

This is the 4th time I have changed my site.

My first one was all HTML ... and it wasn't flashy enough for some Video Clients.

The second site had to much color ... I had a White, Blue and Green site at one point.

And this time, I was suggested to create a full out Flash site for more movement ... but you know ... now that you point it out ... it does take some time to load.

I'll get it right some day.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.

I would have used HTML for the content (text) and maybe Javascript or maybe Flash for the photos. If you're concerned about SEO, you might want to re-think your use of Flash.

Thanks ... I think I figured out the Flash loading issue ... and Actually I even paid for a Flash class that I will take in the next months.

I get a discount for the Class because I took my Advance After Effects class before.

I like the layout, and the uncluttered feel.

I clicked the site, then 'photography', then waited. I waited some more. I clicked over to this browser tab and read this entire thread from top to bottom, then went back and it still hadn't loaded the photos. I left the site without ever seeing the photos. This delay is a significant problem I think. Potential customers will not wait around to see your work, they'll be off to the next site.

Okay ... fixed a few things here and there ... and made the site actually have loading pieces now ...

Let me know if you think I am going in the right direction now for some of u...

And yes ... it's still in Flash ... I just like building websites in a Flash environment more. That's all ... my preference ... plus I am trying to get my Flash ability up more.

In the "Who I Am" section you have a few spelling/grammar errors.
