Hi TPFers, I'm looking for a serious website critique. I don't care if you shred my website design or my work, as long as it's really in an effort to express the need for something better. So, just saying that "something sucks" isn't as helpful as "something suck because...and perhaps...would help." Also, please consider the position that you're taking (pro photographer vs client/prospect) and let me know.

It would really help me to hear some honest stuff, since my wife is all about being supportive.

Thanks,
Vincent

Pros : coherent theme, I immediately knew exactly what you are selling, the photos look nice, I like the colors of the site, and I like the uncluttered feel. The site itself does not take away from the photography at all, and that's good.

Cons : The main page where the user is given three choices "payment", "site", "proofs" (or something like that) seems weird to me. Is that necessary? I didn't particularly care for the little conversation that the dogs were having in the main flash portion. I think a scrolling slide show of you work might be better use of that time. The copyright line says "... and extremely unethical" -- this verbiage is not necessary and seems kind of unprofessional (to me anyway).

David,

Thanks for the critique! I like the pro/con approach. It helps convey the overall helpfulness.

The intro page (with the paw) serves no purpose... get rid of it. Or at least have some photos of your work there instead of a paw. Plus on that page, lot of top-space is wasted, so on smaller res monitors, it would look unbalanced and cutoff. I think it would make much more sense to have the (Vincent The Photographer -- Dog Photography of South Texas) page come up immediately on home page.

And have the "Payment" and "Find your Photos" somewhere tucked away, once they decide to get your service and after they get your service, these two they will seek out anyway. Acquiring new business by impressing them with your work should be given priority.

And I agree with David, instead of a convo... different photos, more from your portfolio would be good.

Thanks for your input! I'll start working on these ideas. I'm still open other input as well.

I agree that the "payment page" as the first clickable link on your homepage is not very inviting to a potential customer. I'd take that whole intro page off. It doesn't serve any good purpose.
