Question about pics of kids for a website. - 04-02-2010, 08:19 PM

My wife does face painting on kids and I recently threw a website together for her.

I'll be tagging along this weekend to take some pics for her, mostly just for practice for me since I'm so new to photography. All the kids on her site now gave her verbal approval, as most of them are friends/family or her students.

Anyway, do we need to worry about release forms or anything like that from the kid's parents if we happen to use them on her site?

Robert,
It would be a good idea. Bring model releases and ask for their email. Send them a photo to use for online networking with your wifes URL. You win all the way around! You can find releases on TPF.

I agree - ALWAYS get a release signed by a parent or guardian if you use the photos publicly in any way - web sites, brochures, marketing, Facebook, etc. I've had to do this not only as a photographer but also an event planner. Every event we've done for children or youth has included a release (signed by a parent) that covers liability and also gives us permission to use any images we take during the event in our publicity. Now in photography, I've just gotten into the habit of taking releases along to every shoot, including ones for friends & family.

Your wife really should get written releases for her site, too. You can never take too many precautions when you are dealing with minors.

Also, only use the kid's first name.. maybe even change it.. on the web.. most people don't post their full name, but thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

Yeah, we weren't even going to ask/post any names. I have two daughter's, so I can understand from a parent's perspective.

Thanks you guys. I'm glad I asked. I wouldn't have even thought about it without this great forum.
