No, haven't been turned down. You just dont ever hear anything from anyone. I've been told by others that they just submitted their site every few weeks until it was added. But then you read on the site that multiple entries may be disqualified. I find it hard to believe that one single entry is good enough and WONT get lost in the masses, so I go in and submit my url about once or twice.

I used to be an editor at DMOZ - the submissions do get lost in the masses, and multiple ones will get the URL flagged and the editors will not allow it.

Alot of the editors are LAZY - especially the big cats. If you submitted it to one of the big categories like "Photographers", you'll probably get ignored for the most part (I bet they have a few thousand unchecked subs there).
Try a category with fewer entries, like something for Sanger if there is one, then branch out after you are approved.

Also, sites that are pretty much just commercial (a business) without something for people to learn on, good content, etc, usually get ignored unless an editor is bored and wants to add a bunch of sites.

Some of those editors are the most narcissistic, petty, and nutty people out there.

The first few times I did categories like texas>photographers. The last few times I've dont texas>localities>denton>sanger, and tried to get as specialized as possible.

I have never heard of this, so I went to the site. I can't even figure out how to find businesses in the dallas area. The drill down was long and I gave up.

What market are you going for, that DMOZ is relevant? I am listed, but I have never heard them mentioned anywhere consumer related.

DMOZ used to be the seeder for sites to be added to Google. But for the last few years Google has not even used it, it is more about their own algorithms. I'm sure being listed in DMOZ helps your Google pagerank and listing, but it is no longer the best way to get into Google.

This is 100% correct. I still don't think my website is listed in the DMOZ directory, but if you Google 'pet photography Dallas' I show up on the first page, fourth listing. If you Google 'pet photography Fort Worth' I show up on the first page, first listing. The same goes for 'pet photography Denton'.

I have never paid to have my site listed anywhere, and I have never paid for a third party to do my SEO.

Relevant links, google ranking is mostly about relevant links to other sites like your own.
