Website question - do away with galleries? - 08-03-2010, 06:19 PM

My website front end has a scrolling slideshow - I use it to highlight recent shots that I happen to like - I've been doing this for a while now and the slideshow has quite a few different kinds of shots that pretty much run the gamut of my portfolio.

My question is this - do people / customers REALLY look at individual galleries? I'm thinking they watch the slideshow and pretty much make up their mind whether to contact me or not based on the first 5-6 images.

I was tossing around the idea of slimming down the site to just a contact me, proofing gallery, and information / pricing page and doing away with the individual galleries.

My proofing section has final images of 50+ photoshoots they can browse, so they can see more if they want...

thoughts?

If you decide to take them down, well I'm glad I got to see them first.

I actually think the galleries are a good idea. It may be just me, but I like to see examples of the type of work I'm looking for and check out consistent quality. A slide show may only show a limited number of those type of photos or someone may not want to wait through the other types of photos. Just my two cents.

I also think its a good idea to have a gallery i think people do like to see what a photographer has to show. The Slide show galllery is also a good thing.. maybe you can alter the slide show to a fancy jQuery Slider

I've had the unique perspective of looking for a wedding photographer as a customer. I would not have contacted anyone without a gallery dedicated to weddings.

Keep the galleries! - 10-24-2010, 12:28 PM

I agree with everyone else; I think that you should keep the gallery. I like it when I can look at past events that others have done. Gives you an idea of what to expect.

I like the galleries as well. On a side note, is the photo of you on your "About Me" section a self portrait? It's an incredible portrait IMHO.
