Question Anyone using Google Apps for business? - 01-22-2011, 10:21 AM

We decided to move hosting companies, and have switched from Portfoliositez, to Creative Motion Designs. While CMD has some definite advantages (phone support being one of the biggest), one of the biggest gripes I have thus far is that they use Google Apps for Business, to host their email. With Portfoliositez, my email, website, blog, and cpanel were all hosted on one server.

So here are my questions:

1.) Because my email is hosted on a Google server, can anyone ever tell that my email address is associated with Gmail?

2.) If any of you are using Google Business Apps for hosting email @yourdomain, how has your experience been?

I was a little startled when I saw that I had to log into google to set up my email accounts, even though they were @themodernmutt.com. I dont want anything to ever be evident that my site is even associated with gmail/google.

I use Google apps all the time, the gmail service at my domain as well.
I think they are top of the line and they work perfectly together, from mail to calendar, places, voice, buzz to iphone and computer sync.

The sync thing is going to take some getting used to as well. I use Thunderbird as an email client for my desktop, and I also check mail from my iPhone. I noticed that if I read something on my computer, it shows as being read on my iPhone and vice versa. I dont like change and I'm used to having to delete things twice or more (phone and computer), so this was a big jolt for me.

I haven't ventured into the calendar yet.

Is there a way to turn the sync feature off? And can anyone tell that my email is hosted at gmail, even if it is @mydomain?

Sure, you can always use "regular" email via POP/SMTP or IMAP but that would take the fun out of it.

I wouldn't know how. I mean I don't know how much an computer expert can dig into an email but the normal recipient will see that the mail comes from yourdomain.com.

We use Google Sync, Mail and Calendar for our entire firm. Can't find a single problem with it in any way. Of course, we have a personal business domain and all of our mail appears to come from that domain etc. but it is all handled via G-mail. I absolutely love the calendar feature...each of our employees' calendars syncs to a main calendar and I can look at all or one or a group to see scheduling.

Best feature of all this is that it works seamlessly with our Android smart phones and allows all of our employees to stay connected real-time with what is happening anywhere they may be. E-mail, Messages, Calendar, Tasks, etc.

Well, could it possibly be determined - yes it could possibly be noticed if someone is digging through the full email headers to find the path that the email took from the source site to the destination account. So yes, it is possible. But it is something that nobody really does. And most users wouldn't know how to do it. Your email address will just be @yourdomain and it will be just fine.

I actually use the free side of things - not even the paid for business ones. And even that has been amazingly good for me. Don't worry about it at all - GREAT product.

As mentioned here, I am still using the google business apps side to handle all of my email and documents. Couldn't be happier.

we use google apps for email. it's free, why not. we also sync our calendars through google calendars and my wife uses ical. any changes i make on google shows up in her calendar and vice versa. no complaints.

an aside, our website company, bigfolio (who we dislike), suggested we use google apps as well.

I hadn't heard about the calendars yet, but Brit and I have been looking for something like that for quite a while. I'll have to check it out.

After about a week of use, I'm starting to get used to the synchronization of email throughout all the devices I use to check it. I really, really like it. I don't have to delete the same email three or four times. The only thing I don't like is that when I 'delete' it actually only archives it to an 'all mail' folder. I haven't figured out how to change that just yet.

I use it for my CAD business. a techy type person could certainly figure out that Google hosts it, but what's wrong with that? Google has stolen a LOT of business from Microsoft with Google Apps - they have top notch hosting capabilities and features - most everything you could get with Microsoft Exchange and more.
