Question Client Login w/ Password Protected - 01-24-2011, 10:32 AM

Im having a heck of a time here. Ive looked into all kinds of different ways to do this and gallery options. As I am just starting I don't want to pay 99 a month for pickpro using WHCC. I like that company but don't like that monthly price. I like Smugmug but I was looking for a actual login procedure.

I see alot of you have this so Im hoping on a cheeper alternative.

PLEASE HELP! Im whacking my head NOW!

Have you checked out Exposure Manager? Not sure if it's really a cheeper alternative though.

If you choose to try it, here's a referral link.

Thats a little cheeper. I was thinking more like a html option where you can set up a log in. Has anyone ever done this? Or is this something that I made up in my head?

I'm not sure you are going to get a cheaper option than Smugmug. Certainly not where clients can order and all that jazz.

You can easily password protect any directory on your webspace by using a .htaccess file.

htaccess password protection

I've used Wishlist Member with Wordpress and it is really easy to create a membership area with restricting access to content. Creating and managing members is all done via the WP dashboard and is pretty straight forward. That combined with what ever gallery plugin you decide to use should do the trick.

You could easily do this using Gallery. It's free software that you set up on your own website. Just create a user for your customer, create their album, and then make their album only available to that user. There's also a shopping cart plugin, so they can order the photos right from the website. The only cost is for the webhosting. Admittedly, I have no idea how much webhosting costs these days, as I've had my own server for years.

If you want to do self hosting, you can look into things like PhotoCart Pictures Pro - Photo Cart

If you go the .htaccess route, that does not restrict the files from being copied. It only restricts access to the diretory.

With SmugMug, you can provide a password for each gallery setup. Is this not what you're needing?
