"Get Your Photography on the Web" - 02-26-2011, 08:58 AM

OK...so I picked up a copy of RC's book. He's designed websites for Scott Kelby and others at NAPP, and put his "formula" into book form.

His main platform is WordPress, which needs to have a web host. His book suggests GoDaddy (which I've heard mixed on).

So...anyone have suggestions as to who to use for web hosting, and also who to use to register my domain name?

We have had good luck with GoDaddy (100+ domain registrations, no hosting) and 1and1 for smaller stuff (4-5 domains with hosting). For leased servers we prefer HostRocket (several leased servers, no domain registrations, 100+ sites hosted).

I have used 1&1 registering and hosting for a few years and have never had any problems with them. The times I have sent them an email they usually respond within 24 hours and the times I have called I talked to a person within a few minutes.

I use dreamhost (Web Hosting by DreamHost Web Hosting: Web Sites, Domain Registration, WordPress, Ruby on Rails, all on Debian Linux!). They are awesome. They have unlimited everything and also give you shell access. I like shell access because I like to be able to edit and create files directly on the server. Plus normally your registration is free with your hosting plan.

Between my wife and myself, we have 4 Godaddy accounts and have had no problems at all. I would definitely recommend them.

I have had zero problems with Go Daddy. Been using them for 4 years in some capacity.

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm looking at either 1and1 or GoDaddy. The one thing I like about 1and1 is the ability to pay monthly, vs. a year in advance. Can't tell of Dreamhost does this, but will take a look at them also.
