Website naming help, por favor! - 04-06-2011, 10:49 PM

I'm putting this thread in Landscape because that will be the main focus of my site.

For years I have used the domain xandriagallery.com. I had a number of different focuses throughout those years, but lately I have decided to change everything up for a couple reasons.

1) My first love is nature, landscape. People, although they are the ones that pay, are not a main interest to me photography-wise
2) if I tell someone my website I then have to spell it out to them. It isn't an easy name to remember.

So, I bring this question to you, many of whom I respect greatly... Since I am going to switch to a new name with a focus on landscape/nature/ and architecture (maybe), I want a name related to the genre as well as my name included. I have come up with "GreenPasturesPhotography.com".

Do you feel that the name is too long?
Reason for the name? "Green Pastures" references back to the 23rd Psalm "makes me lie down in green pastures". So it has my name tied to it along with a "nature" tie in.

Comments? Suggestions? Rude remarks??

Not too long for me ... all I see is a cow grazing in a pasture. I don't like "pasture" locks you in too tight. How about GreenEnergyPhotography ... could have multiple meanings

I personally dont have near the problem with length that I have with complexity so I think the name will be great. If you have to spell that one out for someone..... do you really want that person anywhere near your website?!?!?!?!

Rick, when I ran it by my dad (who was a preacher for 25 years), that is what he said too. "I think of cows in a field... not very appealing". Unfortunately we, especially in Texas, think of ugly cow pastures when we see "pastures". Not until explained do we get a different picture, more tranquil, I guess.

Warren, those are some good ideas! I like the "shadesofgreenphotography"!

Jeff, first when I read green pasture photography my first thought was more along the lines of being put out to pasture. Not a bad thing if you are a horse but there are negative connotations for us humans.

I did like shades of green photography. Slightly reminiscent of "Shades of Deep Purple" album from 1968.

I am anti using the entire word "photography" in a website name. Too much room for error! I say keep it simple. Name the biz whatever, but keep the web address short and sweet.

I don't think pastures is bad, but some might... so I'd go with something else.

Length in domain names isn't too big of a deal, as long as it's readable, there's no double letters together texasstate.com for instance.

I checked greenfieldsphotography.com and it's available. That might be a viable alternative to pastures?

Okay, since it was moved AND Stephen had to kill my excitement, how does Shadesofgreenart.com sound? Shortens the name from having "photography" on the end.
