I might shift the camera so it's not cutting off half the "B".. and the "r" is getting lost. Maybe try reversing it out. There's no rule saying you have to have every letter the same color. I would make Photography a little smaller so the P and the Y line up with the R and the N from the above word.
I might also try a few other font options. some of the letters seem disproportionate because of the way they were cut.

I have to agree with Patrick. First make sure that it is easy to read. I had problems. I thought it was RAB Rown. Using a camera in your logo has been done ALOT. To me is says old. If that is what you are going for GREAT! I think a logo should reflect you and the type of work that your company does.
I did a couple of reworks using what you already had. Just a fast take but to give you some other ideas using what you where already working with.
OH, what are you doing asking other photographers??? DO you really think we have a clue about logos. We are good with photography!!
OH and before using that camera design make sure you have the right to use it!

Consider this:
What does the explicit use of an illustrated camera say about your photography? To many, it says "I am a photographer, and I use a camera." As if there are many others who do not use cameras for their photography.
A common problem with photog logos is not looking to the conceptual to define themselves. What about your photography makes you stand out from others? What drives you? What qualities do you have that make you more qualify you to be hired/purchased?
Just some things to consider from a graphic designer.

| : ) This is just one reason people hire graphic designers. Another is a good designer will produce something that works well technically across many types of usage applications. Good luck. | | | |

Not feeling it. I think it is the font more than anything, almost too cartoonish for me, but that may work for some. I don't have any helpful suggestions and have yet to even put together a simple watermark for my self. Really should do that.

Creating logos for your own business is rather difficult. It's best to hire a designer for your logo design since they have an outside view of your business. The best logos are simple and easy to read. red on black is generally a bad combination since they are so close in hue. If you want to use a camera in your logo, bring it outside the text and use it as a 'bug' or incorporate it as a letter. Play with negative space some. Hope that helps.

I agree about the camera. Seems like every other photographers logo has a camera in it. And, since you already have the word photography in there, it makes it redundant.
I'd be interested to see just a cool typographical solution instead of having a mark... but if you want a mark, make it anything other than a camera.

Hope that helps. | Actually black is the darkest of dark tones while reds tend to lie in the middle tones. Black and red look great together, and are used quoted often. Rather than ask "do these look good?" ask instead "what does this color say about me and my business?"

Thanks for clarifying Snarfy. I was specifically talking about how the logo has dark red letters overlapping the black. When the logo size is reduced, the dark red will blend into the black and the design might fail. Black and red does look good together.
For logo design, I tend to think in terms of contrast rather than color. Think about it this way, if the logo works in black and white (gray tones accepted), it will work in color.

In design we tend to work in very strict black and white until the form, shape, lines, type, and all elements of the logo are locked-in; then move on to color with the same painstakingly deliberate process.
