Question What is the charm for using Photobucket? - 09-29-2011, 08:40 AM

I see a lot of people posting photos in our showcase section that are hosted on PhotoBucket... the downside is that MANY workplaces actually block PhotoBucket so all I see are missing images etc.

What is the draw for people to use that service over others that are available?

When I first started shooting I used photobucket to host because I did not know any better back in 2004. Seems to me that there are way to many ads on there. I still have an account with pictures, but all my stuff now goes on Flickr.

I use it because i post alot FROM work...and surprisingly photobucket is not blocked...yet getting to MY hosting service is! lol! Flickr and me didn't get along too well.

Do the work places that do block photobucket NOT have flickr blocked?

I used to use Photobucket a few years ago... I still have an account there, but I haven't added anything in probably 2 years.

When I did use it, my main reason was that I didn't feel ready to pay for anything, and the free version of Flickr just sucks.

I just found the free account on Flickr too limiting. Photobucket didn't seem to have any of those limits. Now that I have the 'Pro' account on Flickr though, there's no going back, lol.

I used to use photobucket to host images for my livejournal and other random pics before the advent of FB and all that. Flickr is blocked at work as are all personal storage/backup sites - including SmugMug :( Flickr's old uploader was enough to dissuade me from using it after a little while, and FB was exploding at the time.

I still use photobucket, I like having a quick way to throw up a few images on my websites and forums without having to copy paste multiple times. Other than that I've got years of photo's that I don't want to move.

For me, Flickr used to be blocked while Photobucket was not. It was free and easy to use. So I use it just out of habit.

I started using photobucket a couple of years ago just to have a place for my family to look at photos. It was easy to take them off of there and post here and other places. I hate the way they look because they always seem darker than what they really are. I'm just too lazy to start using anything else... But I need to..

Posting directly on PIXTUS seems to be the only way if working on a NASA network, as Flickr, Photobucket, PictureTown, Google Images/Picasa Albums, all seem to be blocked.
