Screen size - interesting statistic... - 10-11-2007, 08:53 AM

When it comes to web statistics it's not easy to find something totally credible but there are people in the industry who, like them or not, you feel you can read with confidence.

Anyway, I was reading Dvorak's column:
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2194135,00.asp

and he mentioned this little stat:
In addition to browsers, the survey covered screen size. 1,024-by-768 is the winner, at 49.5 percent. But only 8.3 percent of the users run a smaller (800-by-600) size. All the rest—over 42 percent—are bigger! So people should get off the old 640-by-480 bandwagon for Web sites.

...from a company called W3Counter (http://www.w3counter.com)

I thought it interesting enough to share anyway.

when I check my stats for my site through google, that is what the majority of my visitors use as well so that is what my site is optimized for. I tend to use the highest resolution my screen will allow (1280x1024 at work and even higher on my 20" at home) so my own site looks kinda small, but it's what the visitors can view that's important to me
