Guidelines to give b&g before e-session? - 05-20-2009, 11:04 AM

Hi,

Does anyone have printed guidelines that you give to your couple before an engagement session? Would you be willing to share them?

For example, what to wear... how many outfits... how much make-up... stuff they should bring... etc...

I'm shooting an e-session as a gift for my friends (they weren't going to hire anyone) and I'm not sure how to prepare them.

Thanks in advance!

My advice is for them to cordinate. . . not match!

I tell them they can bring two outfits. . . this usually lets the girls dictate a dressy outfit for each of them and a casual outfit (which generally makes the men happier).

I usually have them bring the ring box, sometimes I use it sometimes I don't. Depends on my mood that day.

As far as make up, I tell her to wear what she normally would just slightly heavier.

Yupp! I tell them come as themselves, and have fun. If they do those two things they will have a few good photos.

Tell them both not to wear flip-flops.

Also tell them to bring their pet, toys, anything that they like to do as hobby (i.e. guitar, baseball, football stuff...)

Also, if you don't already know, find out how they met. I shot a session for a couple who met on MySpace, so we staged a setup that honored that. Also, he proposed to her at the State Fair while they were riding the Texas Star. Went to Fair Park for some shots and we had the place all to ourselves, which turned out well. Something that gives a nod to how they started out could be special for them later on, in addition to the usual ring/kiss/holding hands stuff.
