I'm shooting a wedding there on the 15th. Just wondering if anyone's shot there before? The ceremony starts at 6pm. If so, any suggestions? How's the lighting? I've got fast canon glass. Think I can get by w/o flash during the ceremony that time of the evening? | | | | | Sponsored Links | Premium Members do not see Google advertisements. SIGN UP today and help support our community.

If I were you, I'd go by this weekend and check out the light that time of day. For me, it is critical to be prepared.

I would check it out but it's in McKinney and I'm in Houston.
Here's the link.

What a cool-looking place. Looks like there aren't many or very big windows, and with the sun at least starting to give directional light by then, it depends on how the building is oriented. I guess the first question I'd have is are you ALLOWED to use flash. Even if you are, as you probably know, it can really be disruptive during the ceremony and you might just try to wing it. You'll prob. need to juice the ISO on your 40D to make it work, but I bet you can in concert with fast glass (esp. f/1.4 or f/1.8).

Good advice Todd. I've been given "free reign" by both the Bride and the Minister. That being said, I really try to not use flash during the cremony so we'll see. I have the "nifty fifty" lens and 24-70 f/2.8. Those with the fact that I can move anywhere will give me an advantage. I still don't plan on abusing my "freedom" by being disruptive.
I'm still wondering if anyone has any experience there. It looks like to place to get some good shots.

They asked me when the deceided to get married, and I told them no. They asked me again tonight. Right or wrong, I am going to shoot it and get a couple of 2nd/3rds from here. I dont think they can afford a destination wedding, but they are looking at venues. Chestnut Sq in McKinney and A&M Gardens in Azel are at the top of the list. They expect to have 150-175 show up. They are Popular kids.

If I was you I would rent a fast prime lens.... 2.8 is not fast enuff. I would rent a 24L and put that on you 10D. And put your nifty fifty on your 40D or vice versa. Better safe tha sorry....

If it is inside the chapel, it is very dark. I did a wedding there about a year ago and was shooting at 3200 iso during the ceremony. Very small, narrow windows on both sides and neither open to unobstructed sky.

There are quite a few old historic buildings if you can take some before the ceremony. We went over last Sunday to check it out. I didn't get to go into the church though.

I was able to hand-hold some shots at 1600 and even 800 ISO. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
