Bride and groom interview questions. - 04-01-2010, 12:01 PM

The other day a couple expressed interest in having me photograph their wedding. Since I am relatively new to wedding photography, I had some questions to ask you wedding pro's;

-I know that the couple has plenty of questions to ask me, but what are some of the standard questions I as a photographer should ask them?

-From your experience, what should I do to prepare myself for the interview?

-Is there a check list on the web that I could use?

-Does anyone know of a legit wedding contract out there that I could use if all goes well and they decide to pick me as their wedding photographer?

Your honest advise will be much appreciated. Thank you!

Most people don't know what to ask when it comes to hiring a photographer, so the first question or at least an early one will be (drumroll, please), "How much do you charge?"

A key is to have packages in mind that don't allow a couple to whittle down your price, and have utmost confidence in your abilities and what you charge. If you don't, that's a tangible place for the whole thing to break down.

I think everyone has their own style in this area....

If you ask yourself this question "what questions would I want answered if I were hiring the photog" it will give you a plethora of ideas. Todd is spot on... as the professional they will be expecting you to know what "they" want to know.

Oh, and there is one key secret to inking the deal....

I take notes in meetings and if a client asks me a question and I don't know the answer I do a bit of research and get back to them after the meeting. Good luck! You'll do great. Just be yourself.
