I don't think it is about the number as much as giving them high quality images. I don't give them 5 versions of the same shot though. I usually pick the best of each image. I usually end up giving 400-700 images in a wedding and most portrait sessions are 45-65, but more if there are more outstanding pics.

I also agree on showing unprocessed pics. I will show some in the back of my camera because I find it helps people to relax, but otherwise, they have to wait and see processed images.

I have found that people get overwhelmed with too many images. Most weddings are between 300-500 for me.

I also sometimes show in camera to help people relax or get kids interested. Usually I get, "Oh, I look good!"

What she said.... When I got married, we didn't ask if the photographer culled images. We got back 3 DVD's with a total of 4,165 images... no BS. That freaking sucked!!!!

I wonder if you could explain what this means EXACTLY?

Do You shoot then hand off to someone using PS and or LR?

Or is it more like going to a local lab with film?

^ It means you send your images to places like Photographer's Edit, Classic Post-Processing for the Wedding Photographer
that will edit your images for you and send you back the sidecar files or LR catalog, or JPEGs, whatever you choose, so that you don't have to spend so much time editing. That's only one company I know of, not sure who Reggie uses. There's also individuals that charge for PP work and you can send them your images.

Really? Showing the bride the back of the camera is my favorite way to get them exited about the shoot. Especially in a situation where I'm manipulating the light a lot and putting them in an awkward pose.
They get to see what I'm seeing and really loosens them up. It's one of the first things I do at a shoot.

^ I agree. When they see how awesome it looks on the screen it establishes a level of confidence in them that you know what you're doing and they're going to look great.

+1 to showing, particularly with kids. This really gets them into it. :)
