Shooting a wedding on the Galapagos Islands - 01-27-2011, 11:39 AM

Hi!

I just got an inquiry to photograph a wedding on the Galapagos Islands.

I am just wondering what costs are involved in the project. I know that there is an entrance fee for the national park. Are there any cost involved? Photography permit, other fees, etc?

Have you ever shot a wedding there?

Thanks!

I may be wrong about this, but I wasn't aware of any accommodations actually on the island. Are the couple going to be on a cruise and just planning to do the ceremony during a day trip ashore? Are you sure this isn't the latest version of a scam request for services? It just seems like such an unusual destination for even an exotic destination wedding, since it doesn't have the infrastructure to host a wedding/reception. I'd love to know what else you find out......it's definitely a destination I would love to see in person, but I'd be a bit skeptical of an actual wedding being hosted there.

There are accomodations on the island but they are not for the general public, I have a second cousin there right now doing work on her Doctorate and she is living on the island for almost a month (as planned).

I would say that this is a scam since it costs boucou bucks per person just to get there and if you stay over a certain number of days you have to go through a shot regimine.

Maybe email this guy? Shooting the Boobies (Galapagos Photography)

^ right - I meant for the general public.

Don't get me wrong, wouldn't it be cool to have a blue footed boobie as the ring bearer? I just think it's highly unlikely to be true.

COOL! Well, I can't be expected to know about every destination now, can I? LOL. Anyone been? I have always wanted to go, but my spouse is less enamored with the idea than I am, so I'd love some feedback from anyone who has been. If there are destination weddings there, maybe I can make it a destination location for a big anniversary! :-D

sounds cool, but I have to admit I'm a little sad that a once pristine natural environment is going the way of uber tourism and destination weddings :(

I agree. But I will shoot the wedding there rather than downtown Miami... :)

Otto, to some of us Miami is as distant and exotic :)

FWIW, I think a blue-footed boobie would make a better ringbearer than an iguana.

Ah, Otto....well, sounds like you may have actually gotten the real deal offer of the year. How cool if you do get to shoot this wedding. As I said, this is definitely a place I will get to one of these days. It is high on my list, just not my husband's. Need an assistant?

I have always wanted to go there! I did a wedding in Hualtulco in November and just booked one in Turks and Caicos in June but the Galapagos is one of my dream dive destinations. Very expensive and very long waiting lists for diving. I would just say cover your expenses and you will do it for peanuts!!!
