Lubbock wedding today need photographer!!! - 02-04-2011, 08:16 AM

I was scheduled to take photos at a wedding in Lubbock today but can't get out of Fort Worth becuase of the snow!!! I was doing it for free to build my portfolio. Very small wedding at Trinity Chapel. If ANYONE out there can help me and shoot this wedding you would save me and a very sweet family from having no pictures at a wedding. The couple is fabulous and would be forever grateful!!! If you are available, please message me ASAP. The wedding it at 3 today!!

Jessica, not trying to be mean here... but that is really irresponsible and unprofessional. Whether you were being paid or not, it sounds like you accepted the role and responsibility of photographer.

This storm has been on the news for over a week, yet you waited until the day of the wedding to decide you could not get out? Why would you even plan to travel to an out of town wedding on the day of, anyway?

I hope someone is able to do it....

Thanks for your response which was a little rude! I have been trying since Tuesday to get there!! I have made two attempts to drive but chose not to risk the safety of my four year old daughter to drive there and have purchased tickets for 2 different flights to get there that were both canceled. It's not for lack of trying that I am not able to go. I've spent almost $700 trying to get to a wedding that I was not getting paid for and was more than happy to do so. I was able to cover the wedding with a friend of mine from there so her wedding will be shot with no hard feelings from her or her family.

Nope, sorry, I'm calling foul. Based on your original post Warren's response was not rude.

1) Get babysitter or leave daughter with friends/relatives
2) Get in car and drive.

As far as I am concerned, when I book a wedding, short of a car crash or hospitalization of an immediate family member, it is my responsibility to be there no matter what. You may not feel the same way, and that is fine, but I would have tried trains, planes, busses or a freeking taxi if needed so long as I got to my appointment.

I do however wish you luck finding someone.

Allan

For use in future planning: The weather this week isn't new. It happens at least once every year. I know it probably wasn't possible, but the couple should have given serious thought to rescheduling.
Glad you got it covered. Free is never really free.

None of us jumped in a car and sped to Lubbock today. No job of any kind is worth getting "kilt, or even worse" over. No way a child should have been put at risk.
Jessica "done what she could", spent money on a freebie, didn't risk she and her child's safety.
Lesson learned: Don't volunteer to shoot for free in Lubbock in February. Unless you live next door to the wedding's location.

Hmmm... what was the weather like last weekend again? If I remember it correctly, it was 75 degrees and sunny skies... I'm certain the SB committee and the 100,000 fans planned for the ice and snow this week...

My original point is that at the end of the day, a professional would have had a contingency in place with the client (B&G) knowing that they were forecasting a big storm, rather than posting on the day of the wedding "if anyone can help, you will save the B&G from going without pictures".

The reality, at least to me, is that she admittedly knew as early as Tuesday that she was having a problem getting out. Giving the OP the benefit of the doubt that she actually tried to purchase tickets, I found her post to be lacking a lot of critical information about steps she may have taken to date that would have lent some credibility.

As it stands for me, her post(s) imply that it was really not a big deal to her because she was shooting the wedding for free to build her portfolio. I found that to be very unprofessional.

I am sorry that the OP found my comments rude, they were not intended as a personal attack, but more as my assessment of her handling of the situation.
