Wireless Remote for Camera - 03-16-2011, 09:11 AM

Has anyone ever mounted a camera on a tripod on the altar behind the bride and groom and fired it remotely? I have a bride that wants shots high up from the baptismal but I don't feel comfortable being up front during a ceremony. If you have ever fired a camera remotely, please let me know what you used and the range. I shoot Canon. Thank you all for your help.

I've remoted a camera for sports, but not for a wedding. Tools of choice are pocket wizard plus II's or pocketwizard FlexTT5's.

IIRC, range on the plus II's is 600-1000ft while range on the FlexTT5's is 300-600 ft.

There are several types of PW remote cables for triggering the remote camera. Make sure you get the correct cable.

Don't wait until the last minute to test your setup. Last minute surprises are never fun and even less fun at a wedding.

There's a much cheaper version than PW that you can do up to a couple hundred feet reliably. Can't remember the darn brand name right now, it's Phottix something or another. Look around google for it, pretty cheap. It's also an interval-trigger as well if you want to do time-lapse.

We've used PW's to do the behind-the-alter cam before.

When is the wedding and where? I might be available to be a human remote. I dont mind being up front high during a ceremony. Maybe they have a curtain that could be clamped up to hide behind even so it was not a distraction to the people in attendance.

It's a thought. :)

Why haven't I thought of this before

Thanks for the idea! Too bad the range on my wireless nikon remote is only 30 feet.

I wouldn't use tripod. Try something like gorillapod. I use super clamp with magic arm. As for triggering, I use pocket wizard multimax but think you can use any PW.
