Looking for photographer for small backyard wedding 6/4 - 05-23-2011, 11:34 PM

I am looking for someone to shoot my small backyard wedding in Corinth (Denton) on June 4th - 7:00 PM.

I am on a tight budget, but I am not looking for something for nothing. However, this may be a good opportunity for someone that usually works as a second shooter to step up in a low-stress environment.

The event will be semi-formal with around ~70 guests, food, cake, etc. We have three good-looking kids 10-12 that will also be included in the ceremony. I think this would be a good chance for someone to build their portfolio, which we will gladly allow.

PM if you are interested. Include price/terms and gallery if available.

I appreciate the PM's that I have received, but I am going to wait until Thursday to make a decision. To add a little more information, I am expecting 3 hours of work and a digital deliverable only - no prints. You may process in PS or LR if you want, but it's not necessary.

Bryan,

Let me break this out in the way most wedding photographers are probably reading this... My point is more information would be beneficial to your cause.

What you said:

I am on a tight budget, but I am not looking for something for nothing.

What we heard:
I really want to pay as little as possible, but I will feed you and get you some gas for the car.

What you said:
this may be a good opportunity for someone that usually works as a second shooter to step up in a low-stress environment.

What we heard:
I know I do not want to spend the money a prime photog would charge!

What you said:
The event will be semi-formal with around ~70 guests, food, cake, etc.

What we heard:
Even though I will not pay much, I want someone professional, who can nail all the important shots.

What you said:
We have three good-looking kids 10-12 that will also be included in the ceremony.

What we heard:
I really want to get some family portraits, and individual shots of my kids made while your here

What you said:
good chance for someone to build their portfolio, which we will gladly allow.

What we heard:
We are good looking! We should not have to pay anything for the privelage of having our pictures in your portfolio

What you said:
Include price/terms and gallery if available.

What we heard:
I want the cheapest price, the highest quality image, and the most experienced photographer.

What you said:
I appreciate the PM's that I have received, but I am going to wait until Thursday to make a decision.

What we heard:
I still have not found the cheapest price, the highest quality image, and the most experienced photographer to do my wedding.

What you said:
I am expecting 3 hours of work and a digital deliverable only - no prints.

What we heard:
What is wrong with you people?!? Let me make this simpler... this is the minimum you must give me for the very cheap pay, and privelage of being in your portfolio!

What you said:
You may process in PS or LR if you want, but it's not necessary.

What we heard:
I do not care if you have artistic vision, I know my way around Photoshop, and they are my pictures, so I will make em look the way I want! Do not even think of charging me for editing.

Though it sounds like I am trying to be funny, I am really just trying to point out how easy it is to misconstrue someone's meaning on the internet. Your tight budget can be way different that someone elses. I have clients who consider 3k to be a very tight budget for photography....

Good Luck,

W

Warren, you may have done the OP a favor by posting this. You see, I also heard the same thing as you. It wasn't until the end of your post, when you pointed out that the OP may consider $3,000 to be a tight budget, that I realized I was making assumptions that may not be accurate. I agree that the OP would do themselves a favor to post what the budget is.

Great summary, Warren. Bryan, it is certainly not meant to be offensive or mean, but that is how many will read your post, and probably saved a lot of misunderstood replies.
