Well, we are in a tight spot. I am being relocated for my joe job to a much more desireable region of the country. Where the issue comes in, and under normal circumstances, we would fly back to do the weddings on our books. The wife is unable to do that b/c she is pregnant. So, we are refunding all the money (deposit included) to our brides. We also feel we are leaving them in a tight spot and should do a little due dilligence to help the brides find another photographer. We have gotten all the other weddings taken care of.
We should set some criteria before you let me know if you are able and interested to do this wedding in Houston. You should be:
*An established and experienced wedding photographer with an extensive portfolio
*Have sample albums to show
*Be able to do custom albumn design and have access to professional album printing companies
*Be a female primary, and male second
*Be available ALL DAY Nov 5th
*Deliver at least what is in our contract with the Bride: 8 hrs, bridals, a matted 16x20 and a 16x20 album
Please let me know if you meet the criteria AND are available for Nov 5th. We plan to give the money back to the bride and let them renegotiate the contract with the new photographer (reason I am not disclosing what the current contract is). The bride lives in Dallas, so she may be interested in hiring a Dallas area photog, but I am unsure of her energy of doing bridals in Houston.
Thanks,

Congrats on the move, I hope it's a better opportunity for you. Since your title says Houston, but the post says Dallas, is the wedding in Houston or Dallas?
If you're in DFW now, you might want to check with Leslie since she is in that area and travels....

then Leslie would be a good choice given that you want a female primary....not that she is the only choice, but since she is in Dallas.....

is Ms. Spurlock around these days? Or would it be better to reach out to her? If she's around, I figure she will trip over this thread and she can make her own decision.

She was on yesterday, although if your bride is interested in her style, it might be worth it to approach her.
I sent this link to the photographer I work with, but have no idea if she was interested. May not work though since I'm her second, and I'm not male. :)

could be some flexibility on the male second. I do know it is a BIG selling point for us. Some guys are ok with anything. the main thing is, the female primary.

edit: i have never priced out a 16x20 album. did you really mean to type that? that's huge. i am a female primary, but would need a male second (my associate shooter is also a chick). and i'm in houston.

Hey! Just saw this. Thanks, Nathan! Not sure if this is the same one that Thomas Campbell referred to me (sounds like it is), but if not, I'm available and meet the criteria. My second is male. November is the only month I have a ton of availability, for some weird reason. Anyway, if this is the same one that Thomas asked me about, I think he already sent her my info. Oh, and I don't really have any albums to show. I never need to. We use Finao for our top album and Asuka on the lower end. I can show her some layouts, however, and most brides love the way we work with them on albums. We go back and forth with them, 5-10 pages at a time, and they can make as many changes as they want until the LOVE it.

Can you clarify for us why having a female primary photographer is such a good selling point?

Dave, while I assume you are burdened with having that pesky "Y" chromosome, it is not really my choice in this situation. We market ourselves with my wife as the primary, and it works well for us. Some people are males, and whatever they do for marketing can work better than what we do, and it can work worse. I'm not sure how the ol' fat slobbery man with a precarious interest in shooting boudoir drums up work, but I'm sure he does, but unaware of his profit margins.
In this particular situation, it was a huge a selling point. And at the time I wrote the OP, we were highly concerned with helping this bride find a similar photog. IF you are truly interested in marketing methods for male primary wedding shooters, I would suggest you start another thread. Quote:
