For the wedding photographer that wants to save wear and tear on their own personal vehicle and just arrive to the brides home in a taxi cab at the start of the wedding day and then leave in a taxi at the end of the wedding day, while riding with the bride from her house to the ceremony and then to the reception...

haha,

no for real, not to be cheap and save wear and tear on your personal vehicle, but more so to catch more intimate photos of the bride & groom as is discussed in this article

Have many of you here made it a common practice to do this and did you get some good photos from it???

We did one shot where we tailed the bride and groom. That was fun.

Sometimes we do, depends on how much room there is in the car/bus.

okay...i have reasons...NO, i would never.

1) i dont' trust other people's driving.
2) other people speed too much when they are late.
3) sometimes, they are drinking on the wedding day...that's not happening with me in a car
4) i need to complain, if even to myself sometimes about behavior's...etc.
5) i never want to depend on someone else to get me to where i NEED or WANT to be WHEN i want to be there..
6) my equipment would take up too much room..

if i am riding with them (in a limo or car-- this is not generally a situation where i am riding with them to save on wear and tear or gas) generally my equipment is with my assistant in my car.

i don't ride to "carpool", i ride if there is a convenient/timeline reason for doing so. if we're going to wind through downtown and stop and shoot portraits, it's easier to be in one vehicle... and if they have a limo all to themselves, no problemo. when we arrive at the reception venue, there is already someone there with my stuff and car.

more often, they are riding with me (after a secluded first look, or from wedding to reception if they do not have separate transportation and we are doing post-ceremony couples pics). it doesn't happen all that often, but on occasion it does. i also live halfway to galveston, so if i have engagements or bridals in galveston, they usually stop at my house and change, then we ride together to avoid confusion.

Oh, and I don't do it to save gas. My second shooter is following in my car when I do do it. I do it for the photo ops.

I have done it on a couple of occasions.

Twice I have rode with the bride from her house to the ceremony location due to necessity. My second shooter was with the groom already at the ceremony location, dropped me off at the brides house before hand and I just rode with the group (I talked with the brides about this before the day of and they were all more than happy to accommodate).

BTW, my second and I drive together to each wedding since many of them are decently far away from us.

One time I was asked to ride in the limo to the location of their first date... all for photo ops. My second was following behind.

Cool. It's interesting how everyone has their different styles and each wedding can be a really different experience. If there hasn't already been a reality tv show on a wedding photographer, (i don't know because I haven't watched tv in years, lol) there certainly should be! I've got a friend in Las Vegas who used to play for a band called Quiet Riot, he's also a photographer, last I heard from him E was supposed to be possibly doing a pilot show on rockstar photography or something of that nature, haven't heard from him in several months so I don't know if it fell through or what.

I haven't done it yet. But I do get carsick when looking back while the car is moving so I'm guessing I'll be limiting it to shooting when the car is parked!
