Is there anyone here that ONLY uses Light Room to do all their editing/processing? - 07-26-2011, 01:53 AM

Is there anyone here that ONLY uses Light Room to do all their editing/processing?

I have not used Light Room yet. But I have been reading posts here and elsewhere on the net that many like it better than the other Adobe photo editing softwares like elements & photoshops. Especially wedding photographers since it's faster, and from what I read seems to be easier.

I've read where people say photoshops more powerful, but sometimes it overwhelms me and I feel lost in it. Whereas what I've been reading/looking at on the net & youtube of Light Room it just looks much simpler and faster.

I read where some are using Light Room for some things and then Photoshop for others.

I personally think it's easier to stick with 1 program as opposed to having to use two, I just like to keep things simple & streamlined.

But how many of you are soley using Light Room vs using it in combination with something else?

I only use Lightroom for portrait sessions. I only use photoshop on bridals and boudoir. I might use it for content aware on a couple of photos..but about 97% of my images are run through LR only.

I think LR has an easier workflow--but I started with LR first (since it was cheaper) and folks who start with PS like it better...just up to personal preference.

Lightroom gets most of my work, but we go in and photoshop all the prints and album pics. And we organize with Photomechanic.

I do almost all of my processing of images in LR. I could actually give my clients the images straight from there, but I'm a perfectionist and still run them through PS for minor processing details. LOVE LR!

I use LR mostly. Occasionally, there will be some big editing that PS is better for (editing someone out, for instance). I would still have both.

I guess I'm like Leslie in that I do most of the basic processing in LR then I tend to go ahead and run them through PS for a few tweaks... And of course anything major like fixing things and skin retouching. I have a friend that uses almost exclusively Light Room for everything. Only uses PS for more extreme issues if necessary. I started out using PS though, and I still find that I like it better than LightRoom, but it can't touch the speed of LightRoom, thats for sure!

I do all of my portraits and weddings in LR exclusively. Boudoir I take into PS so I can get a better smooth on the skin, but levels are all done in LR first.

I don't use LR, but I do all my editing in Aperture. Very rarely do I take stuff into Photoshop anymore.

I know, you asked about LR, but I thought I'd add that, as I think less and less is being done in Photoshop anymore. (really only heavy lifting type of stuff).

Everything begins in LR for me including portraits. However, since LR isn't as well equipped for portrait retouching as PS, I always end up finishing there. For other stuff, unless I need a specific tool in PS, it's LR all the way.

first run editing is all done in lightroom. usually it goes to proof gallery from there.

stuff only gets pulled into photoshop if it is being ordered large and needs specific retouch... or if it's boudoir. or if i'm feeling frisky and just feel like playing around with photoshop (storyboards and birth announcements, save the dates, etc. are in PS because they're templates).

and of course albums.

cool. i just found these tutorial videos on light room, you all probably have seen these before or don't need them, but if any one does they are on this page about in the middle, there's links to about 200 videos teach how to use light room

Photography Tutorials, Photography Tips, Photography Lessons, Photography Equipment Reviews, Photography Wordpress Themes

i like the guy that teaches in those because he makes it really really easy to follow what he's doing. I'm watching them all in sequence, but I've only seen the first 10 or so so far.

It's funny because I asked a question on here, then later was searching for info on google, and found this and seen the video where he totally answered my question about when & why would people need ps with this, and he said pretty much the same as you all, 95% of stuff lr, the other stuff is like when you are trying to do a major feat like remove someone or some big area from a photo.

I read on this forum more than I post. But I am still amazed at how nice & supportive all of you are! I've posted questions in other forums in the past about things unrelated to photography and there's always people quick to get rude and say why am I asking stupid questions etc. But here it's great, here it feels like that cliche the only stupid question is the one that you don't ask. Sometimes I may post something that I feel like I know the answer to, but yet am just wanting to make sure I'm on the right track, reassurance I guess. Sometimes I'm just looking for insight or being inquisitive on how other people do thing. But I just want to say you people are great. Perhaps it's because you are all in Texas too, it's a Texan Thang. Or maybe it's just a Photography thing, or both. I'm just happy I found this forum.
