How do you market your photos - 06-03-2008, 03:42 AM

Okay, you shoot the wedding and create these nice galleries with great images, but how do you get people from the wedding to your site? Do you just depend on word of month, that the bride and groom will tell their famly and friends? Do you handout business cards at the reception?

I have seen numerous photographers that put business cards on the sign in table, gift table, and a few spots here and there,

inviting guest and family to view the event at www.abcabcabc.com/123

Biz cards with your website linking to the gallery AND passwords. If you have at least one password, they need to keep your card. I used to do that. Now we send out an ecard and the bride forwards it to everyone under the sun. It has a large image of the couple (promo shot), passwords, and clicks through to our main site. I dont have a copy of mine on this computer, otherwise I would post. But I think it is important for a photographer to use images as often as they can. Showing people something is so much better than telling them. That's our job, right? Figured why not tap into that. Make every step of the wedding fun, exciting, and full of photos.

I discuss it with the couple beforehand. They may not want everyone looking at the photos. If they say it's ok, I'll print out a card with my info. and the URL to the hosting site, with the password. I may put these on each table at the reception, or a basket of them at the guest book. I've even left a signup sheet at the guest table so they could put down their email address, and then I send an email when the photos are ready. The bride and groom dictate my actions.
