So true, So true!! I just got in from shooting a wedding tonight and although the MKII worked like a charm, I took the 20D just in case. Cause like you said, Tis a necessary thing!! Glad you had a back up camera Jennifer.

Yeah, then she would've needed two or three backups.

Maybe we should all be shooting with Pentax.

Our patron saint Murphy is a brutal one ain't he?

I have a complete third backup set in the car, albeit cheap, but should do the job should my first & second setup fail.

I have been fortuate to never had to have to use my backup camera, but I have had a flash fail on me and it is great peace of mind to know you can continue to do your job (especially without having to rely on the pop up flash)

You haven't lived until you have had TWO cameras die at a wedding, . . . within 5 minutes of each other, . . . during the alter returns. Yep you haven't lived. After 27 years of wedding photography you realize anything can happen, and given enough time and events it will.

I don't want to make excuses, so now I now carry three digital cameras, two film cameras, 4 flash units and batteries out the wha-zoo.

I am going to go knock on wood right now...

But.. the only cameras I have had fail on me during shooting a wedding have been a Nikon D70 and D100 (my partners) .. Of course, this can and will happen with any brand...

I have resorted to multiple backups too (3 total for now)...All are different bodies, but would work fine in case of a disaster. I also throw my LX3 P&S in the bag these days. I have a Canon film body Elan 7E, that I have considered bringing... but never have.

The nice thing...I am always working with another shooter that has multiple backups as well.. So if worse came to worse...

Now something that hasn't been mentioned is backup SHOOTERS! LOL... I shot a wedding as a second shooter for a local photog and he was involved in a car accident on the way to the reception. I was there and shot about 75% of the reception myself...including all the key moments. Whenever, I second shoot...I always take a separate car...These things happen....

I dropped a camera two years ago. Watched in slow motion as it shattered into a thousand pieces.

Dreamt about it off an on for weeks.

Don't forget the deep very slow voice going off too, "OOOOOOH NOOOOO!"

Back in my video days, my partner walked off tethered to his brand new camera (using a external XLR mic attached). His tripod tipped and went down face (LENS) first... I heard that same voice...and dived... Saved that bad boy! LOL
