Limo driver offers photography services - 05-10-2009, 04:46 PM

In addition to their wedding yesterday, my couple also hired me to shoot their post-wedding brunch this morning. They scheduled to have a town car pick them up at noon. As I was waiting outside to shoot their exit and be on my way, the limo driver gets out of the car to ask me camera questions. No big deal, since lately someone always asks me about photography at every wedding I shoot. Anyway, he goes on to tell me that he also offers his clients his photography services. He says he has a 300D (I think he meant D300), tells me the long list of lenses he has. He then says he tells his clients, if they're interested in his photography services, to just supply a flash card. Whatever fits on the flash card, he'll just hand over to them (SOTC) and charge $400. He then goes on to ask if we could have a business arrangement and work together. I felt like a I had a look on my face that said "HUH?!?" when he was talking to me. I mean what if I told him, "I shoot weddings but I also drive a town car and offer my clients $5 limo service?" I wonder if he offered this service to my couple. Hmmm...Anyway,
I'm not sure if any of his clients have ever taken him up on his offer. Just thought this was an interesting story to share. Enjoy!

I have said something similar before... Not to a town car driver, but DJ... (Ipod, etc)...

I'm wondering what kind of business arrangement he was wanting from you. I mean if he's going to drive AND take the pictures, why would he need a professional photographer? If he just hands them the card, I wonder if he even looks at the images. Maybe he needs a second driver.

Lol... He prolly meant 300D which is the first digital Rebel. I wouldn't be surprised.

We offer soloists, duets, trios, quartets and accompanists for our customers.

Mrs TC is a professional singer (lyric soprano) so it makes a little sense for us.

oh that's a good idea. I could make a couple extra dollars every wedding if I just drive them to their hotel in my Honda Element. I can put some flowers in the car, some open alcohol containers for the couple, and slap a "just married" sticker on the back. Got myself a business!

I wonder if my liability insurance will cover car wrecks.

No to really get it covered Your services need to offer: Photography (from engagement through the Honeymoon), Bridal Gowns (also Tuxedos and all other clothing needs for wedding parties), Invitation Printing and Design (can incorporate photos being shot before the wedding), Catering (also specialist group that does cakes), Limosine Services (including picking up guests at the airport and buss station and Helicopter services to take the lucky couple away from the event in style), DJ, Rental Hall for the event, Florist services, Baby setting services (for the couple who already have a couple kids-also birthing services for the bride who goes into labor in front of the preacher), Security Services (for those high end couples), and Travel Agency services to book that honeymoon.

All services other than photography can be offered at a big discount.

Paul, you forgot one: legal services to draw up a prenup (if needed), wills and handle the divorce (if needed).

So I wonder. Is the clock running on the limo rental while he is also shooting the wedding? You know, you get the limo for X hours. While you're in the ceremony, he is getting "overtime."

Maybe he needs a second driver to take the car out while he is shooting? :p

Jeeze forgetting the highest profit sideline, but then you do have to have some sort of south american law degree to do that- OK you also need a license to fly the helicopter- so can anybody else add to this? (BTW Booze is included under catering).

Since he just shoots then hands in the card--I wonder, while he is driving them around if the car starts running low on gas does he just pull into a gas station and tell them to get out and fill 'er up? "I only drive the car--you do the rest of the work. How bout cleaning the windshield while you're out there!"

He could take photos of the couple doing this ... would make for a strange album photo.
