The Crazy Places We Shoot - 01-03-2010, 12:20 PM

This is just one of many crazy places we've shot. This was on the second story of a house that was falling down. It's one of the only times I've been nervous (I've fallen through the floor before, but not on the second story). This one really seemed like we would fall through it, and the stairs getting up to it were in even worse shape. But, I have great clients. They said they would save the camera LOL!

hahaha, thanks! i will say, this time it was my clients idea to shoot here. i was totally game for shooting downstairs and around it. i was kind of shocked when matt and ivy wanted to go upstairs, but i am not one to turn crazy ideas down lol. i think i kissed the ground when we got down. and going down the stairs was easier for them cuz they are tall. they are like, just hold onto the ledge. im like, i cant reach it LOL! you had to hold onto the ledge of the second story to get past the stairs that weren't there anymore. but we can look back at it and laugh and feel a morbid sense of accomplishment lol!

Cool Place. Looks like someone already fell through the third on the right background.
I wish his hand wasn't so tense and 'gripping'. He's like, really hangin' on to that thing like it's going to fly away

Dodging bullets or falling though ceilings. Leslie gets the shot.

Leslie, I would never take a client to any place that is in any way unsafe. Do you know what you are opening yourself up to legally? Yes, the two people in front of you may say it is okay but what about others close to them? What would their parents say to a lawyer regarding the broken pelvis that postponed the wedding? What would a mother say regarding the facial deformity of the upcoming bride?

With people so lawsuit crazy these days I wouldn't take the chance. And don't think a waiver will stop them from suing you?

Thanks, guys!

Michael, I hear you. This is where the clients wanted to shoot, not my suggestion. A lot of times, the moms are with us and hop over fences and such, as well. My brides and grooms understand what they are getting into when they sign up with me, and so do their parents. When we hopped the fence of the Baker Hotel, with bride in her wedding dress, the mom was dressed in a very classy outfit and hopped it, too. And, it was, again, my clients idea to shoot there. I ALWAYS tell me bride and grooms that if I ask them to do something they don't want to do, please tell me. But yes, I do agree with you that it could potentially lead to lawsuits, but these people would not hire me in the first place if I did the "traditional" thing.

So, standing on the rickety stairs, the bowing floor, listening to the creeks and groans of an old building, does your insurance agent come to mind, for yourself, your clients, and certainly your equipment! Maybe that should come first. :)

All liability aside, it looks like a fun shoot and you did well with it. Was ther enough natural light coming in or did you use a flash?

He's wearing pink socks and a magenta/gray shirt... and she's wearing all pink. Interesting. It'd make an interesting B&W or sepia I'm sure. You should (humorously) title this one "Fixer Upper".

Leslie,

You should fine a decent-sized sheet of ply wood (new) and put it on the floor over there on the right by the doorway. Then you can shoot whoever from outside up to the second floor (and they can stand there safely). I'm sure you could rock that look!
